Radovan Hiršl rođen je 04.06.1946. godine  u Zagrebu, a odrastao je u Beogradu. Studirao je na Likovnoj akademiji u Beogradu, gde je nakon postdiplomskih studija dobio zvanje magistra likovnih umetnosti, 1981. godine. Na 24. Oktobarskom salonu 1983. godine, dodeljene su mu prve nagrade u dve oblasti – slikarstvu i skulpturi. U Beogradu se njegova dela nalaze u Muzeju savremene umetnosti. Jedan je od predstavnika beogradske underground umetničke scene sedamdesetih i osamdesetih godina 20. veka.

Od 1986. godine živi u Cirihu (Švajcarska). Početkom devedesetih sa suprugom Ljiljanom Hiršl i multimedijalnim umjetnikom Claudom Steinerom osniva umetnički kolektiv i radionicu, potom i izdavačku kuću «Virus». Nakon raspuštanja kolektiva, 1995. godine, saradanja je nastavljena, organizovanjem izložbi i filmskih večeri u ciriškoj galeriji Tumb i organizovanjem serije kolektivnih internacionalnih izložbi «Psychonautic Landscape I-IV». Od 2010. godine aktivni je učesnik transdisciplinarnog teatarskog kolektiva «Alptraumtheater» iz Ciriha. Učestvovao je u filmskim projektima mladog beogradskog reditelja Vladimira Milovanovića (kratki filmovi «Manifest» i «Radovan Hiršl o Beogradu» i dugometražni film «Lice Revolucije»).

Monografija “Vesela apokalipsa – umetnost Radovana Hiršla” obavljena je 2005. godine (Zürich/Solothurn: Nachtschatten Art, trojezično izdanje). Objavio je autobiografsku zbirku priča “Žvaka za ludaka” (Beograd: Prosveta, 2006).

Radovan Hiršl preminuo je 25.10.2015. u 23.00, u Cirihu, okružen svojim najbližim.

Radovan Hiršl was born in 04.06.1946. in Zagreb, Croatia, and grew up in Belgrade. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, where, after post-graduate studies, 1981. has earned the title of Master of Arts. In 1983, at the 24th October Salon, he was awarded first prize in two areas painting and sculpture. In Belgrade, his works are placed in the Museum of Contemporary Art. He is one of the representatives of the Belgrade’s underground art scene of the seventies and eighties of the 20th century.

Since 1986. he lives in Zurich (Switzerland). In the early nineties with his wife Ljiljana Hiršl and multimedia artist Claude Steiner founded the art collective and workshop, then the publishing house Virus”. After the dissolution of the collective, 1995, the cooperation was continued, organizing exhibitions and film evenings in a Zurich gallery Tomb and organizing series of collective international exhibition Landscape Psychonautic I-IV.” Since 2010. he is active participant of transdisciplinary theatrical collective “Alptraumtheater” from Zurich. He was involved in film projects by young Belgrade director Vladimir Milovanovic (short films, “Manifest” and “Radovan Hiršl of Belgrade” and the film The face of the revolution“).

Monograph “Joyful  Apocalypse Art  of Radovan Hirsiwas published 2005 (Zürich / Solothurn: Nachtschatten Art, bilingual edition).  He published an autobiographical collection of stories, “Žvaka za ludaka” (Beograd: Prosveta, 2006).

Radovan Hirsl died on 25.10.2015. at 23.00, in Zurich, surrounded by his closest.
